Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

In honor of Saint Patrick's Day and the fact that I am Irish (Gallagher).....
I just finished watching Boondock Saints.

Oh and this is my surname's crest. Gallagher is the 14th most common last name in Ireland. It is also the last name of William in P.S. I Love You (her husband's friend in Ireland). ;)
It means "foreign help" or " foreign helper"

Yay for being Irish!!!

LUSH

LUSH : Fresh Handmade Cosmetics

Okay so besides having super adorable cartoons of their products on their page LUSH is also really good for the environment and animals, yes that's right most LUSH products are VEGAN.
I really want to try out some of their products like the soap, message bars, and solid shampoo. The reason why I want to switch over to solid shampoo is because my is super long and I go through the huge bottles of shampoo and conditioner like crazy, and since I can't stop my conditioner bottle waste at least I could cut back on the shampoo bottles. :) The only problem is I need to smell things before I buy them because I am really sensitive to smells and the closest LUSH store is about 25 miles away. :( However LUSH offers samples of most of their products for only $1, which is nice if I do decide to order offline.
LUSH retail stores also offer things they cannot sell online because they may spoil before they are shipped, like the bio-fresh face masks.
I highly recommend looking at their site at lushusa.com

The Mighty Boosh

The Mighty Boosh is going to air on Adultswim starting March 29!

Even though I am super excited that The Mighty Boosh will finally be airing on an American television channel, I am a bit sad knowing that all of America will now know of my secret British show.
Most people have seen a part of The Mighty Boosh without even knowing it. The youtube phenomena of OLD GREG is actually part of a Mighty Boosh episode.
The Mighty Boosh is a hilarious British comedy show that revolves around the hetic and strange lives of Howard Moon and Vince Noir. Most episodes usually have some sort of song in them, which always has a catchy tune that I find myself singing for days after watching. The Mighty Boosh is an extremely difficult show to describe, you just have to watch it and decide for yourself!
GAH! I am soooooo excited for March 29!

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Who knew Neil Patrick Harris could sing?

I have to admit that I have jumped on the Dr. Horrible bandwagon a bit late compared to others, but this was due to my skepticism for anything that was not Buffy or Angel. However, after watching the first three episodes of Dollhouse I learned that Joss Whedon could never do wrong and decided to give it a try.
Once again Joss does not disappoint. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is full of the dark humor that Joss is known for. The other appealing aspect of Dr. Horrible is the fact that it contains musical moments which Joss is amazing at. The songs are just as addicting as those from Buffy: Once More With Feeling due to their catchy tunes and relevant meanings. I have found myself singing them for the past four days at the most random times.
The main character Dr. Horrible, played by Neil Patrick Harris (who knew he could sing?), is desperatly trying to get into the Evil League of Evil while trying to capture the attention of his love Penny, played by Felicia Day. Both of his plans are thwarted by his arch-nemesis Captain Hammer, played by Nathan Fillion.
The show was first aired online at hulu.com on July 15, 2008. It was originally aired in three separate acts released two days apart from each other. Each act is only about 14 minuets long, totaling the series to about 45 minuets, which seems impossible while you are watching it because the story is so well developed.
I highly recommend anyone who loves Buffy, any of Joss's other work, or musicals to watch this blog as soon as possible. It can be found on its original website hulu.com

The Sims 3

I am oh so excited for the Sims 3 to come out! Unfortunately the release date that was set for February 2009 has been set back to June. The PC version will definitely be coming out in June, but there are different opinions on when the Mac version will be released. Some believe that it will be released at a later date, some believe it will launch on the same day as the PC version, and some believe that both the PC and the Mac version will be on the same disc. Of course I would be okay with either of the last two.
Sadly I have not been able to play the Sims 2 for a very long time. I had it for the PC, which of course meant that I had to re-buy it for my Mac laptop. But since I came home from college last spring the disc has been lost and I do not want to purchase it again since the Sims 3 should be released soon. So I guess I just have to wait.
Anyway, the Sims 3 has soooo many new, amazing features. The most amazing new feature is the fact that your sims can now leave the house, which means they can go visit their neighbors, go on a picnic, or attend a protest. Another new feature is the ability to change the color and pattern or everything in the game including: furniture, walls, floors, clothing, and hair (able to give your sims highlights). The last new feature is the ability to give your sims personality traits. Each sim can have 5 personality traits that influence their lives like hotheaded, clumsy, or excitable.

Jobs For History Majors

Museums and Historical Organizations:

Research in museums includes authentication, verification, and description of items; more basic research that focuses on the meaning, significance and context of artifacts; and research (usually team-based) that is aimed at assembling an exhibition or educational program based on the museum's collections. Museum staff members involved in these activities usually possess specialized knowledge in a particular subject field, a general knowledge of historical methodology, a curiosity for artifacts, and a sense of public responsibility. Although larger institutions may require higher educational qualifications for staff members involved in research, a BA (with some additional training) may suffice, especially for entry level positions at the smaller museums.

Historic Sites and Museums:

The United States has numerous historic sites and museums ranging from large national museums to the small, local historical society collections. The National Park Service is responsible for approximately 350 parks, battlefields, monuments, and sites around the country, almost all of which have some cultural resources to be interpreted. Educators are needed at such sites to interpret the past to visitors with a wide range of education and experience. Those who teach at museums and historic sites may need more than traditional history courses to qualify for their positions. Courses in art history, folklore, and archeology may prove useful training for work at a museum or historic site. In a small museum, the education specialist may also have some responsibilities for exhibit preparation and collections management. In this case, specialized museum courses are invaluable. In large museums, there is a distinct difference between curators, who are responsible for the collections, and exhibit specialists, who design the exhibits.

Novelist:

Though novels are works of fiction, audiences crave authenticity in their entertainment. Many history majors who share a love of writing can put their knowledge of historical periods to use by crafting clear visions of days gone by. Because history majors spend so much time learning to decipher the causes and effects of major world events, they can craft elaborate scenarios that keep readers engaged from cover to cover. By couching their tales in accurate settings, historians can open up their favorite worlds to new audiences. Many readers pick up a historian's love of an era or of a character, while enjoying an entertaining story.

History Professor:

Some history majors thrive in academia so well, that they make perfect candidates to train tomorrow's generation of historians. Tenured history professors don't just recite copy from old textbooks, however. Many faculty members spend most of their time writing about history and culture while leading research teams that investigate new leads about specialized subjects. By uncovering new information and reaching new insights, history professors help refine the stories we tell about past civilizations while helping us write a better story for ourselves

Foreign Service Agent.

You may not find yourself slinking around European nightclubs in swanky clothing like the stars of the television series Alias, but the United States Government does want your help if you understand the history and culture of foreign countries. Numerous government agencies employ history majors to provide valuable insight and context for potential policy and partnership decisions. Helping our leaders better understand the customs of our friends and foes around the world can open up new opportunities for trade and cooperation, or it can defuse the military fallout of potential misunderstandings.

Just a couple of diferent jobs that are available to History majors.

Where Should I Study?

Okay so I have been thinking about going back to my old university to finish my degree......

But first a little history:
I originally started at Baldwin Wallace College majoring in History and English. Afraid that I was not going to be able to find a job after graduation and due to the fact that my fiance was also transferring, I transferred to Ohio University last fall as a freshman. I also really wanted to be able to learn Japanese, one of the few languages not offered at Baldwin Wallace. As of right now I am majoring in East Asian Studies and minoring in Japanese.

The downsides of Ohio University:
-It is located over three hours from my house so I normally do not get to go home until after the quarter is over, which is three months
-I do not have a car on campus, so I am not able to leave and go anywhere
-The people here generally are not people I would normally surround myself with
-The class size is ridiculous, some of my classes have about 200 people in them
-Due to the large class size it is extremely difficult to get to know the professors on a personal basis
-The campus is huge, and the only way to get uptown is by walking up a very steep and long hill
The positive things of Ohio University:
-They offer Japanese
-I would be able to study abroad in Japan
-My Japanese professor is adorable
-My fiance also attends Ohio University

The downsides of Baldwin Wallace:
-Since I have already left I do not think I would be able to rejoin my sorority
-My old roommate transferred out this year
-It is more expensive than Ohio University
-They do not offer Japanese
-I do not know if their program to study abroad in Japan is any good
-Transferring back may put me behind and I may not graduate on time
-My fiance does not know if he is also going to transfer to a school closer to home
The positive things of Baldwin Wallace:
-My old advisor and history professor is absolutely amazing and I really miss her classes
-I would be able to live at home and commute to school
-Since I would be living at home I would get to see my family everyday; my grandparents are starting to get old and I want to spend as much time with them as possible
-We are getting a new puppy in a couple of weeks
-I would be able to get a job in a daycare
-I would be able to see my friends more

As you can see there are many benefits to attending both schools, which is why I am having such a hard time deciding.

This Blog

This blog shall be my more personal blog. I have recently started another blog whose main focus is book reviews, which can be found here. I figured that blog would fare better if I kept the focus on books, but I still found myself wanting to post about other more random topics and so this blog was born.

I hope you enjoy it.
